By holding potent energy points that are connected to the body’s twelve organs this stimulates endorphins, the body’s “feel good” hormones. Acupressure points are the same as acupuncture, but use a gentle- firm pressure to release tension or blockages on the points where needles are normally applied. As a result, one feels relief from stress and tension and balance is restored throughout the body.

Acupressure originating in China and has now moved to other parts of the world and brought to the US. It originally began as a folk art with practical ways to balance and heal the body. It works directly on our life force energy or chi. In India, where yoga comes from they refer to this energy as prana. When one’s life force is abundant and strong, one can live a long, healthy, and energized life. When the organ meridians are in balance, life force is stronger because the energetic meridian pathways are flowing. This nourishes the entire body. One of the first signs of a chi blockage is when muscular tension accumulates around the Acupressure points.

According to Michael Gach who founded the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA, “Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to gradually press potent healing points, which stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities. Acupressure was developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago. Using the power and sensitivity of the hand, Acupressure Therapy is effective in the relief of stress-related ailments, and is ideal for self-treatment and preventive health care for boosting the immune system. Acupressure releases tension, increases circulation, reduces pain, and develops spirituality and vibrant health. Acupressure therapy can also be used to relieve pain, fortify the sexual reproductive system, detoxify the body for greater health and beauty, and tone facial and back muscles.”
